“North Carolina is world renowned as a film-friendly state and has been for nearly 100 years. The state is among the top film destinations in the world.” — Aaron Syrett, Director, N.C. Film Office
North Carolina’s first major exhibition about the state’s role in filmmaking will become a reality with your help. The N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh plans to open the exhibit Starring North Carolina! in November 2014. Presented in partnership with the N.C. Film Office, this fascinating exhibit will explore North Carolina’s continuing presence in the film industry for close to 100 years. The exhibit is part of a yearlong celebration that includes a film festival and film series.
In today’s economy, the N.C. Museum of History must rely on private contributions to fund exhibits and programs. Your tax-deductible contribution is essential in making Starring North Carolina! a reality. To raise money for this exciting exhibit and celebration, the museum has launched an Indiegogo campaign to help fund this effort, and your support is needed!
What is an Indiegogo Campaign?
The N.C. Museum of History is the first museum in the Triangle area to launch an online Indiegogo campaign to fund an exhibit. Indiegogo is a social-media- based, crowd-funding tool that makes it easy to learn about a project, follow up with a contribution, and help spread the word.
Time is of the essence, however, so donate today! The museum’s Indiegogo campaign ends Friday, Nov. 29. Go to www.ncmoh-starring.com for exhibit information and a link to the museum’s project on the Indiegogo website. Or simply access the museum’s Indiegogo page at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/starring-north-carolina. You’ll find explanations, a video, and plenty of great perks that are available with a donation: T-shirts, behind-the-scenes exhibit tours, and more.
“Indiegogo is an innovative way for the museum to raise funds for this exciting project,” notes Camille Hunt, Project Manager, N.C. Museum of History. “Getting people involved from the beginning is very important to us. From helping fund the exhibit and related programs to loaning artifacts and sharing stories, Starring North Carolina! will be successful because of our community!”
Yearlong Celebration of North Carolina’s Filmmaking
More than 2,400 films and television programs have been made in the Tar Heel State. The museum’s yearlong celebration, which begins with the exhibit opening, will recognize this significant history.
“Starring North Carolina! and its associated programs will thrill, entertain and educate people all over,” remarks Aaron Syrett, Director, N.C. Film Office. “It’s important that North Carolina’s rich filmmaking history be brought to life!”

About the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources
The N.C. Department of Cultural Resources (NCDCR) is the state agency with a vision to be the leader in using the state’s cultural resources to build the social, cultural and economic future of North Carolina. Led by Secretary Susan Kluttz, NCDCR’s mission is to enrich lives and communities by creating opportunities to experience excellence in the arts, history and libraries in North Carolina that will spark creativity, stimulate learning, preserve the state’s history and promote the creative economy. NCDCR was the first state organization in the nation to include all agencies for arts and culture under one umbrella.
Through arts efforts led by the N.C. Arts Council, the N.C. Symphony and the N.C. Museum of Art, NCDCR offers the opportunity for enriching arts education for young and old alike and spurring the economic stimulus engine for our state’s communities. NCDCR’s Divisions of Archives and Records, Historical Resources, State Historic Sites and State History Museums preserve, document and interpret North Carolina’s rich cultural heritage to offer experiences of learning and reflection. NCDCR’s State Library of North Carolina is the principal library of state government and builds the capacity of all libraries in our state to develop and to offer access to educational resources through traditional and online collections including genealogy and resources for the blind and physically handicapped.
NCDCR annually serves more than 19 million people through its 27 historic sites, seven history museums, two art museums, the nation’s first state-supported Symphony Orchestra, the State Library, the N.C. Arts Council and the State Archives. NCDCR champions our state’s creative industry that accounts for more than 300,000 jobs and generates nearly $18.5 billion in revenues.
