RALEIGH, NC (WECT) –

In a news conference held Wednesday morning, Rep. Julia Howard, the chair of the house finance committee, said she did not expect North Carolina’s film incentives program to be extended in its current form.

Howard said the GOP leadership is open to looking at ways to improve the program, which many credit for luring on big budget film and TV productions to Wilmington and other areas.

Rep. Frank Iler of Brunswick County said he disagreed with that thinking, saying instead he would rather see the current incentives extended through 2020.

WECT’s Jon Evans and Justin Smith are at the General Assembly meeting in Raleigh to listen in on the discussion about budget, teacher pay and incentives. Be sure to watch WECT News this evening for the latest details.
